A day in the Sandia's

Albuquerque, NM

We spent a couple of nights in Bernalillo (just north of Albuquerque) which gave us one day to play. Our RV spot at the KOA worked just fine for a quick couple of night stay and the location was great there was great for accessing the Sandia Mountains. We decided to hike Piedra Lisa which turned out to be really trail. It had lots of variety in both geology and types of views and plants. When you start out you look over the valley and then you turn in to the other side and get lots of juniper, pines and mountain views. We even went through some patches of snow.

The views from the top were so worth the climb.

That evening, after hitting the laundromat, we caught up with our friend, Gilbert Gutierrez, for a great beer at the super cool Sante Fe Brewery. It was fun to reminiscence about our epic backpack trips into Yellowstone and & Glacier (when he was in MT for summers) and get some dispersed camping tips.
