Our first night we grabbed a spot back at the same BLM campground we used last time. The next day we drove the car around to scout for some options for the remaining nights and ended up just down the road finding a great spot at another BLM campground. It happened to be raining that day so there was a pretty incredible waterfall cascading down right in front of our windshield that sat and watched. It dried up pretty quickly once the rains stopped so it was kinda cool to get a chance to see it!
These campgrounds are just so great for $20 a night. They have no hookups so you have to be able to boondock but they do have restrooms if you need to use those and are located in some great areas around Moab.
We decided to spend a couple of days inside Arches this time so the first day we drove around to get our bearings, wandered around overlooks and did some hiking. There were lots of people on some of the trails so we were selective in what we did and enjoyed having more space to ourselves. One day was a lot stormier looking and then we got bright blue sky.
I even caught some beautiful pictures of a Woodhouse's Scrub-Jay.
The Fiery Furnace area was really cool looking with some of the most interesting rock formations!
One day we did an incredible hike, ranked as hard, called Devil's Garden. It included some scrambling and I found myself periodically removing my shoes, in order to get more barefoot traction, as we climbed up the sandy/slippery slickrock. We took the primitive trail and it was a lot less crowded and provided just some of the most incredible views as you scaled ridges, rock bridges and all sorts of amazing rock formations.
It was fun to spend a day soaking up all the incredible colors and canyon views in Dead Horse Point State Park.
We sure love this area!
Love Arches. Always spectacular.
