More things to do in Helena, Montana

We parked our RV next to our good friends new house in Jefferson City, surrounded by incredible views in every direction. Evening walks with their dog, Pickles, were a treat. We periodically even got to chase runaway ranch cows away from their landscaping!

One night we experienced the most amazing sunset!

We loved kayaking the Helena Regulating Reservoir and saw so many cool birds including the most amazing Heron rookery. Several trees were just filled with numerous nests and Heron babies of all ages. It was so cool!

Another day Jordan and I headed to bike the Helena Ridge Trail. The first 1 1/2 miles were a slogfest as we gained significant elevation (I mostly hiked with my bike). After that we had great biking with incredible views.

Unfortunately, the ride ended very abruptly as I experienced an epic over the handlebars, rolling Princess Bride....as you wish....moment over the side of a steep curve. I stopped my decent by running into a pile of logs/tree debris which resulted in some painful road rash, bruises and sore body parts. After visiting the local urgent care (and getting cleaned up) I was informed that luckily it didn't appear that I had a concussion which was really great news since I remembered hitting my helmeted head pretty hard. Felt pretty damn lucky it didn't end up worse.

After a couple of recovery days playing games and resting we headed out to sit by pretty Park Lake to enjoy the scenery, birds and watch Deb catch the most amazing fish! One after another she brought them up and told us what they were: cutthroat, cutbow, rainbow and the super rare arctic grayling! It was a wonderful relaxing day and great way to end our super fun visit with them.

I am so glad that your bicycle rodeo event was not any worse than it was!!! Yikes😬. Keep wearing the helmet. I just ordered myself a new one for riding. My last one is 5 this year and even though it hasn’t had an impact, it is wise to replace them every few years as the materials degrade in time and you want the most protection you can get if needed. I am sure you know to toss that helmet in the recycle bin now and get a new one. Your friends place looks idyllic. I want yo move there... I love sharing your adventures.

It really was scary and shook me up! Yes, the helmet will get replaced! I was sure glad I was wearing it and the dings in it show just how important that was. I'm glad you wear one when you ride.
