Bandon, Oregon: Our family Reunion

We've been to this area before when we were RV'ing and loved it so it was great to be able to share some of our favorite things about this part of the Oregon coast with everyone. Bannon is located near Coos Bay on the on the south side of the mouth of the Coquille River. It's a small quintessential beach town and we loved our week there.

Our entire gang!

This was the first time we were able to meet our newest granddaughter - Eden!

The house we stayed in was a historic home (the oldest commercial property in Bandon) built in 1906. It worked perfectly for our large group. It had amazing views (loved watching the brown pelicans & cormorants), plenty of room to rest between playing, space for board games and rocks out back to play on.

It also had a view of the Coquille lighthouse and we had some beautiful sunsets out our backyard.

The location was ideal for exploring the fascinating low tide pools that are in this area which have the most spectacular wildlife! We went out at low tide several mornings to explore. Sometimes the marine layer was heavy and other days it would be sunny first thing so that was cool because it changed how things looked. It was the first time some of our grandchildren had seen the ocean. When Olive first saw it she said "I can't see the other side!!!!".

There were fun beach play times and brave souls that actually swam in that super COLD water! There were gorgeous sunsets and ice cream.

Everyone loved listening to the Sea lions at Simpson Reef Overlook despite it being quite chilly when we arrived.

Luckily the clouds moved out fairly quickly and we ended up being able to hike and enjoy the gardens at Shore Acres State Park (where we saw some seals) and climb around the cool rocks.

That afternoon some of us hiked the short Cape Arago South Cove Trail to a quiet beach where we had fun looking for ocean life and just hanging out a bit.

We were able to get in a couple of great hikes with views as there are lots of hiking options in this area. One which also allowed us to plop down on the beach for a while.

By our last night it was just Brian, Kim and us as the others had headed back home and we enjoyed our last bottle of wine and watched the sun go down at Coquille Point. Capping off a magical week full of amazing memories.
