We actually spent Christmas Day having a marvelous time exploring this part of Mallorca and found all sorts of cool things to see and do. It was very quiet since everything was closed but we loved that as we had much of the area to ourselves. Here's our favorite things we did that day.
A Short Hike
There are lots of great hiking trails on the island to choose from! This day we decided to do the Torrent Sa Noguera - Mirador San Volta de s'Escolta. It is a shorter one at 2.5 miles and pretty flat at 331 feet so a great easy hike. We found parking on MA-10 near the start of the trail and began working our way past all sorts of rocks, private property bordered by stone walls and tons of olive trees. The trail is open to the public and you just have to close gates behind you as you continue along to keep the goats in. It smelled so good and there were constant bird sounds all around us.
As we got farther along we began to catch glimpses of the water and discovered a couple of great overlooks where we could look out on the Port de Valldemossa and surrounding mountains. We ran into a very friendly local family out for a walk and took each other's picture and had fun visiting for a few minutes.
A Drive to Banyalbufar
The drive here was wonderful, passing by lots of olive groves, farms and stone walls.
Sa Volta des General - this was a small pullout with hiking trails and we just got out to look out over the beautiful town of Banyalbufar and the terraced gardens and farms that run up the mountains. There were farmers burning things (which happens frequently on this island) so it was a bit smoky in some directions but so picturesque.
We continued on our way passing through town and along the coast with gorgeous villas, farms, terraces houses dotting the area and stopped here for more great views.
A Climb up a Tower
Our next stop was at Torre del Verger which is an old watchtower that was built in 1579 to help protect against pirates. It was open so we climbed to the top to see amazing views in all directions.
A Drive to Estellencs
We continued heading southeast on our way from Banyalbufar on MA-10 and it was just a beautiful drive. We reached this little village where we saw all kinds of trailhead signs and it became apparent this was a very popular hub for walking trails on the island.
Mirador d'en Ricardo Roca - this was a viewpoint at the top of a tunnel over the road that we stopped at shortly after passing through town. Looking down at the color of the water was truly astonishing.
Then we made our way back to Palma passing through a super cool tunnel having had a marvelous day and loving this part of the island!
December 2022
Such a wildly unique Christmas experience! 🎄 Love seeing those terraced gardens here too, they're always beautiful. Looks like it was a gorgeous sunny holiday. ❤️
