Sequim, WA.

Port Williams

Did you know that Sequim "is one of the driest places in western WA"? This is due to being part of the Olympic Rain Shadow?

Spring here meant lots of deer, blooming flowers, blue skies, biking, tide pools, sitting on the beach, lavender farms and shell/rock collecting along the gorgeous coast. A mother deer had her two baby fawns in our yard and we loved watching them play and sleep in the empty raised garden beds.

It was pandemic time so our experience was probably somewhat unusual since many things were closed or had restrictions. It sure made things quiet and we loved finding so many areas to explore nature.

Hurricane Ridge is the most easily accessed mountain area within Olympic National Park and has stunning sweeping views in all directions from multiple trails.

Lavender is to Sequim like huckleberries are to Montana.....

One of the coolest things we were able to do was help our friend Susan at Fleurish Lavender; her small lavender farm. We met Susan when she was a guest at our B&B in Bozeman, MT. It was fun learning all about lavender and helping her debud/clean blooms from last year's plants. We also worked on getting some of her products ready for her newly designed curbside shop as she made adjustments due to the pandemic as well as harvesting the early blooms opening up. Kim worked hard at creating a new website for her thriving business. The annual Lavender Festival was cancelled this year but is typically held mid July so if you are in the area don't miss it and be sure to stop by this adorable farm!

Stunning Rialto Beach

Our Favorite Places to play and explore:

  1. Port Williams - A great local small beach that's perfect for walking, shell collecting, putting in a kayak or just plopping down in the sand.

  2. Fleurish Lavender - Our favorite small family lavender farm owned/operated by a former guest at our B&B.

  3. Dungeness Spit - Gorgeous narrow strip of land with miles of beach to walk and wonderful waves during high tide.

  4. Olympic Discovery Trail - An incredible trail system that runs for miles connecting towns and areas. Perfect for walking or biking. There are intermittent parking areas so you can explore different sections on different days.

  5. Clallam Bay - This bay had the most amazing tide pools to explore and is just in a beautiful setting.

  6. Port Townsend - An adorable coastal town with Victorian architecture, cute downtown and beautiful areas to see the coast. We loved spending time in Fort Worden Hiking trails, sitting on the beach and Lighthouse.

  7. Rialto Beach - An incredibly beautiful beach that's part of the Olympic National Park. It's rugged with crashing waves, sea stacks, tide pools and the Hole in the Wall trail.

  8. Hurricane Ridge - Spectacular mountain vistas, snow capped mountains, wildlife and plenty of hiking trails to wander.

  9. Carrie Blake Park - A wonderful park right in town with a small pond, amazing gardens and gorgeous landscaping. During our month the iris and peonies were in full boom and stunning.

  10. Lake Crescent - Amazing blue water that is perfect for kayaking. Fun hiking trails and stunning scenery.
