Victoria, B.C. - We've been having fun exploring different areas around the city.
Our favorite views were from Jocelyn Hill (which is in the Gowlland Tod Provincial Park) as you gain elevation and look down on the Saanich Inlet. Afterward we had a scrumptious lunch at 900' Wood Fired Pizza.
Another pretty spot, we visited, was Thetis Lake which was perfect for a picnic and walk (you can take the trail all around the lake).
We spent one day exploring the Sooke area which is about a 45 min drive from our place and on the southern tip of the island. We started with a coastal hike in the East Sooke Regional Park and then ended up driving around the basin onto the west side for some scrumptious chowder/bisque and calamari at West Coast Grill. Afterward we enjoyed watching the seals from the dock.
We also wandered up north a bit into North Saanich to catch some inlet views as we hiked the John Dean Provincial Park, enjoyed yummy food and beer tasting at Category 12 Beer, grabbed some vegan ice cream from a truck we drove past and watched a pretty Heron hunting.
Not really hiking, but we have loved regularly going through Beacon Hill Park with it's flowers ponds, live summer music and trails. One day on my bike I found a very inquisitive peacock that kept right on walking toward me as I had stopped to give it lots of space to move off the trail!
Of course there's always urban hiking around the downtown harbor (with breaks of course for yummy food).
