Our favorite hike near Alcúdia, Mallorca

We hiked Penya des Midgia which is near the beautiful Northern medieval village of Alcúdia and it was incredible. It's about 2.5 miles roundtrip (plus any side excursions you may decide to take) and about 900 feet of elevation gain.

Getting there:

The hike is on the La Victoria peninsula which separates the two bays of Pollenca and Alcúdia and is about 15 minutes east of Alcúdia. Coming from Palma it took us about 55 minutes to reach the trailhead.

The drive was beautiful and we passed several goats grazing by the road. We parked at a church called Ermita de la Victoria and began to hike through heavy vegetation and past a gate closed off to vehicles warning about previous rock slides. Hiking Tips: We were glad we wore waterproof shoes, as there were a couple of muddy sections, and that we had downloaded the AllTrails map because it got a little tricky at the end figuring out which way the trail went through the rocks.

The views began to get more and more open as we went along and we loved being able to see the Formentor peninsula to the north across the Bay of Pollenca. At times the trail ran right along the edge with sweeping views.

A Surprise!

We came around a corner to discover that the trail went through an incredible stone passageway!

Stepping out the other side we found a very narrow path with a chain to hold onto, a couple of goats, incredible blue water in the lagoons below us and spectacular views in every direction.

Continuing Up

We went on for a bit more passing some interesting ruins as we looked down and out on the end of the peninsula. It was so pretty in every direction! At this point we began to gain elevation as we climbed around rocks looking for the dots indicating where the trail went. It was a bit of a scramble mixed in with parts of trail as we continued to go up.

Incredible 360 views

After finding a good place to stop I sat and soaked up the panoramic views while Jordan climbed up a bit more to the top where there is actually an old cannon (there were other hikers resting at it so he didn't take pictures of it).

Time to Turn Around

Then we made our way back through the cool stone opening and headed back to our car enjoying different perspectives on our return.

There's lots of great hikes in Mallorca but this was one of our favorites up North!
