Moab, Utah Red Rock boondocking

We arrived in the area and stayed two nights at a RV Park until we could check out the options for boondocking. We were pleasantly surprised to find a number of BLM managed campgrounds that are all first come/first serve. After locating a spot at Gold Bar Campground we shifted the RV and have been here three nights. It's SOOOOO much better than the RV park and all of Jordan's hard work is really paying off and we have plenty of power from the solar/lithium batteries and the increased water capacity from being able to combine our gray/black tanks (since we have a composting toilet). It's so much nicer to sit outside and be surrounded by all this incredible red rock.

We took the first two days to rest/recover from our activities at Bears Ears so one day we decided to take a drive and did the La Sal Mountain Loop. It is a fantastic scenic drive that climbs in elevation, has incredible views over the Moab Valley and Canyonlands National Park. We saw vistas, red rock, snow, aspen, wild turkeys.....just all kinds of cool stuff. The combination of the snow and the red/desert was truly cool.

Here are a bunch of pics we took throughout our drive as we stopped at various points. YOu start by heading south on Hwy 191 out of Moab and follow the Colorado River. Then you take the La Sal Loop Road and begin climbing up up up! Then you begin to make your way back down and end up into town.

Across from our campground is the well loved Corona and Bowtie Arch Trail which is really great but busy from sunup until sundown (it's very popular for families). It's a nice climb up with lots of great views from all directions. We decided not to battle the crowds heading right over to the bottom of the arches and instead just sat for quite some time just soaking it all up and enjoying the sweeping views. We had fun playing with the camera and capturing all sorts of images.
