Sa Foradada, A Beautiful West Mallorca Hike

This hike starts up high and continues down to the cool rock formation called Sa Foradada where you have access to the water in a small bay. It's located near Deià which means it's perfect for exploring that beautiful village afterward. The weather was super changeable the day we did this from heavy clouds to bright blue sky so it felt like two different experiences during the same hike.

The Hike

The trail is about 4.5 miles roundtrip with an elevation gain of 1,000 feet. To begin, we parked at the Estate of Son Marroig which is just off the road between Valldemossa and Deià. There were some machines that we used to pay for the parking. It looked like there was a food place at the top but it was closed the day we went in January. There was also a great overlook area. Once we passed the buildings we saw a gate. Don't be deterred if it's closed as you just have to open it to begin the trail.

Our Start

There were great views from the very start which began as paved but soon turned into dirt. We loved walking past the terraces of olive trees and marveled at how old some of them looked!

The Descent

There was a large section of amazing rock that had the most interesting shapes and formations. We wondered if perhaps at one point it had been an enclosed cave that later partially eroded.

As we continued to descend we regularly got great views of Sa Foradada and the coast.

The Point

When we reached the bottom we followed the trail out along the point for some beautiful views looking out and back at where we hiked.

Cova de Sa Foradada

At the very end was a small beautiful cove with some areas to get in the water or just sit, like we did. Surprisingly there was a restaurant down there, but it was closed and looked like it had been for some time. With the moving clouds it was really beautiful and quiet and we stayed here for quite a while just enjoying ourselves.

By the time we started heading back the sun had come out and it turned into a bright blue sky which made made things look entirely different on our trek back to the top!
