Mallorca is a large island that spans about 62 miles from West to East and just under 50 miles from North to South. That means there are plenty of places to explore and one day we decided to drive out to this area. Here are our favorite things we did and saw.
Getting Here
Driving here from Palma took us through a tunnel and out past lots of farms and orchards. The mountains were still in the distance and it was pretty flat.
Port d'Andratx
In about 40 minutes we reached this working fishing town which is located on the harbor about 3 miles outside of the town of Andratx. The first thing we did was stop for a pot of yummy tea and toast with sliced bananas and gomasio (japanese sesame salt) at Natural Café Vegetarian & Vegan. Then we walked all around the little port which is really pretty with rolling hills and houses all around the perimeter.
As we continued driving things became a lot more green and forrested and we passed a lot of orchards and country houses.
Sant Elm
This picturesque fishing village is in the foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains and has a couple of beaches. Since we were here in December most things were closed for the winter except a cute cafe right by the water that had oranges as their table centerpieces. It was super quiet as we strolled and I put my feet in the amazing colored water. Yes, it was cold, but I'm sure in the summer it would be a bustling beach area and wonderful place to swim.
We continued driving, stopping at a few miradors to see the views, until we reached La Punta Blanca where we parked the car and walked out to enjoy the views of Dragonera which is a smaller unihabited Balearic island. We had hoped to do this hike in La Trappa (a natural preserve near here) during our stay but never made it back to this area. It looks beautiful and gets high ratings so worth checking out.
Then we turned around and headed back to Palma having loved our day experiencing this part of the island and these smaller villages. December 2022
