Porto is about half the size of Lisbon and we can already tell that difference in things like noise, crowds, cleanliness of streets/sidewalks and access to get into things. There are lots of beautiful buildings and interesting stuff to look at as you turn every corner and we are discovering plenty of amazing places to eat yummy food.
Our train from Lisbon took about 3 1/2 hours and was a pretty ride. We got unpacked in our adorable cozy studio apartment. It has nice big windows, all on one side, and is so quiet compared to our place in Lisbon! I mean we can tell we're in a city, but the traffic and people noise is a lot less, and we hear lots of bird sounds from the open windows. It's also located close to a main metro stop which has been really convenient.
We've been doing a lot of walking! It's hilly and there are lots of small alleys filled with little shops and eateries.
One day we rode the bus out to the coast where we enjoyed ocean views. Then we rode the tram back into town which was super fun.
On our way back I noticed a bar in an amazing location so we jumped off the tram and sat down for a drink overlooking the Douro River which winds it's way through the city. Afterward we meandered our way past some overlooks and parks.
Some evenings we catch amazing golden hour lighting as we walk around streets and overlooks. One time we even discovered what felt like a secret little rooftop garden where I enjoyed a glass of dry tawny port (Yes, this is where Port originated) and incredible views.
We are definitely falling in love with this gorgeous city.
Stunning!! The hills and river really make this city look so picturesque. I love love love those photos of the river and architecture on the other side. 😍
Love these photos. Moving to Portugal next year and trying to decide between Lisbon and Porto (leaning toward Porto right now). What neighborhood in the city are you staying in? And have you caught the sunset from the other side of the river in Vila Nova de Gaia?
