Fun Activities in Madeira to Enjoy

Our son Brian and his girlfriend Amanda arrived and we had a short overlap before Kim headed home. It was so fun to have them all here together and we tried to squeeze in lots of fun while pacing ourselves due to their jet lag! Here's a few of the best activities we did all together.

Enjoying wandering & views

Our first full day we walked and walked all over Funchal checking out the Christmas market, the beautiful streets and waterfront. Then we enjoyed food & views from the Galáxia Skyfood | Skybar as the sun got lower.

Golden hour brought more wandering over to the waterfront to see the sun shine on the mountains and the beautiful sky.

Madeira at Christmas is utterly magical

Then the moment arrived we had been waiting for! This was the night that the bajillion Christmas lights all over the island were going to be turned on! We had been walking past workers hanging these on every street for days. It was incredible to watch them begin to light up all over the mountain sides and surrounding streets. We spent the next couple of hours wandering all over to see them and trying our first Poncha (which is a traditional drink made with sugar cane alcohol and juice).

Stand on one of the highest cliffs in the world!

The next day we took a drive to the Cabo Girão Skywalk so they could get some panoramic views and experience the glass platform.

We had planned to take a short hike but the rain started so instead we filled the late afternoon/evening with watching Portugal play a world cup game, doing art, eating yummy food, laughing and spending time together. Capped off with more walks to see the pretty lights and then long hugs goodbye as Kim would be leaving in the morning on her flight back home.

It was so special to have these couple of days together and we absolutely loved our time with Kim the last few weeks. Next up lots of playing with Brian and Amanda. :)
