There are so many beautiful places to hike here and we never got tired of seeing the beautiful red rock formations. We took these pictures while hiking in February which meant far fewer people on the trails and really nice temperatures. Here are three areas that offer several hiking options that we loved.
Airport Loop
The version we did was this one. It's a 3.3 mile loop with 429 feet of elevation gain. The parking for this hike can be tricky as the closest lot is very small and only holds about 10 cars, but there is another lot here if that's full. The hike is close to town and has great overlooking views and it was fun to start off in patches of snow. We enjoyed watching the planes come in to land above us. Catching golden hour and sunsets here would probably provide truly beautiful perspectives of Sedona.
Cathedral Rock
There are a number of hikes around this cool rock formation starting from various points depending on desired length and difficulty.
We decided to check out a short easy hike from the Crescent Moon Ranch area. Our plan had been to follow this trail that crosses the river but it was closed due to unusually high water so instead we wandered on open trails for a while. It was cool to get these stormy views.
Another day we went on a short 1.8 mile section with a few patches of remaining snow. This was the Baldwin and Templeton trail and we enjoyed doing it with my uncle and his wife who were visiting the area.
Broken Arrow, Submarine Rock, Chicken Point & Hogs
There are a whole bunch of interconnecting trails in this area so we had fun just exploring a several of them. Having our maps downloaded helped a lot and allowed us to navigate our way around easier.
We started by heading out on this trail that took us first to Submarine Rock.
Then we continued on to Chicken Point which meant walking on the jeep trail for a bit.
After leaving that area we connected to a number of trails that had "hog" in the titles: High on the Hog, Hog Heaven and Hog Wash. They had really great open views and we loved climbing around the rock formations.
