We enjoyed some fun Day Trips from Lisbon using the train & ferry.
One day we decided to take the train to the coastal town of Cascais. It was going to be a hot day in Lisbon so it was nice to head somewhere a little cooler. The ride took about an hour and was really pretty as there are large windows on the train.
As soon as we arrived we stopped for a yummy lunch at vegetarian place called House of Wonders. They had cute rooftop seating and you selected what you wanted by seeing their items laid out on display which was creative and great!
Then we began just wandering our way around the town, through a park with colorful roosters and along the harbor enjoying the architecture and colors.
We ended up hopping on a couple of scooters, as we made our way further along the coast stopping to have a yummy salmon salad near the Guai Lighthouse. It was fun to be outside and on the coast again and we realized how much quieter it was outside the city!
Then we took an Uber to get out to the westernmost point of continental Europe - Farol do Cabo Raso. It was fun to climb around and watch the crashing waves. Then it was back to the scooters so we could ride back into town, eat dinner and catch the train home. We realized we hadn't spent much time actually wandering the main tourist parts of town as we walked past them pretty quickly heading toward the water, but it reminded us a bit of old town Lagos with pretty cobblestone patterns and lots of little restaurants and shops.
The next day we took the Ferry to get to Cacilhas which is on the other side of the Tagus River. It was a very relaxing day as we enjoyed the gorgeous views of Lisbon. We walked, ate yummy pastries, had lunch at a table right at the water and then took the really unique Panoramic Elevator of Boca do Vento which took us from the waterfront up to the city level where we passed a restaurant grilling sardines outside for their patrons.
After getting off the ferry we headed through Alfama to stop for some yummy tapas and some pretty golden hour lighting.
The color of the water at the harbor is so stunning. Love seeing you on the coast again! Wish I could see you guys on your scooters zoomin' around. 😄 That elevator is so funky!! What a cool idea. Food looks incredible, as always. ❤️
