We really enjoyed doing these two hikes from the Brins Mesa parking lot. The road to get to this lot gets a little bumpy and requires a slightly higher clearance vehicle so just plan for that or find a place to pull over and park along the way before it gets rougher. We didn't have a problem in our Chevy Spark both times we drove here and we were able to find a spot no problem.
This hike is 4.5 miles roundtrip and has an elevation gain of 951 feet. The path was well marked and offered great views of the rock formation as we made our way along.
After the first mile we began most of the total elevation gain over the second mile as we climbed up over rocky sections to reach the mesa.
Brins Mesa is large and we climbed up on a cool rock to enjoy the wide open views in every direction. It was really beautiful to be surrounded by formations on every side. We found this trail to be quiet and a lot less crowded the day we did it as we only passed a few other hikers the entire route.
This is a short, pretty 2 mile loop and relatively flat with only a 334 foot elevation gain so perfect for a quick hike.
Along the way we heard a Hairy Woodpecker and watched as it worked hard to get a juicy reward!
Due to the recent snow storms we also passed some patches of ice which were really pretty mixed in with the red rock formations all around us. The hike had sections which really open up for some great views.
